This TV ad was promoting the cardiac treatment at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn in comparison to the hospitals located in Manhattan. The idea was to appear like a breakup text letting the Manhattan hospitals know that Brooklynites wouldn’t need to make the trip for quality care when one of the top cardiac hospitals is right in their proverbial backyard. I collaborated with the video director and client through the whole creative process from storyboard to production, as we came up with a definitive ad for a target audience that was relatively young to receive cardiac messaging.
I used Photoshop for the storyboard and editing the background imagery, and After Effects for the keying and animation.
In working with the director and the client throughout the production process, the storyboard sketches here were a part of the first step. The initial idea is not what ended up being used, but sometimes you need to give a client a visual place to start and then build from their reactions.
I needed to pull a key from this green screen setup to isolate the model with the phone. Originally, the plan was for her to be a moving silhouette with a glowing phone in the final production, but client decided to simply use a still frame of her instead.
I animated the texting simulations on top of the background/model composite and added the logo treatment, messaging, and some typing audio effects. The spec sheets from the commercial distributors had various settings for submission so I rendered several different versions to match those requirements.
