Cookie Jam

My Role

This was a mobile ad unit promoting and driving traffic to the game Cookie Jam. The client provided a verbal guide for things like timing along with a layered Photoshop file to serve as both a mockup and a source of assets. Once I was able to separate all the assets at high enough resolution, I needed to make the unit come alive using code to animate and implement tracking capability.

I used Photoshop for asset preparation and mockups, then I produced the ad using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Conceptualization

Brainstorming was minimized on this project, as the client had a solid idea of what they wanted the unit to look like. They provided a very good layered Photoshop file in which one layer was a layout guide and the rest of the layers were used to more or less separate the other elements.

Prepping assets

Even though the PSD did a decent job of isolating the various elements for the ad unit, I still needed to go in and save them all out individually at 2x resolution so they would be retina-ready when viewed on mobile phones.

Production

When all the asset files were saved, I laid out the unit using HTML and CSS, and used JavaScript (Greensock specifically) to animate everything. The game was not actually playable, so I didn't need to worry about any drag-and-drop functionality.
